Besotted with Brahms: Sandra Cotton, mezzo-soprano & Catherine Hamner, piano

Songs and pieces for solo piano including capriccios, intermezzos, and rhapsodies. The concert is followed by a reception in the East Duke parlors that will include a discussion/Q&A with the artists. Sandra Cotton is a member of the music faculty at Duke University, where she teaches studio voice, the physiology of singing, and diction. She received the Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, as well as additional certification at the National Center for Voice and Speech. Since moving to Durham in 2007, Dr. Cotton has offered Art Song and Chamber Recitals, premiered works by local composers, adjudicated collegiate and post-collegiate competitions, and traveled regionally and internationally to teach Master Classes. Catherine Hamner received her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from UNC-CH and has held various music leadership positions in a number of churches and schools in the Raleigh area. Currently she is Staff Accompanist for Campbell University's Fine Arts Department and serves as Pianist/Organist for the Campbell Divinity School Chapel services. This concert is presented in association with the Department of Germanic Languages & Literature, the Department of Music, the Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts, & the Franklin Humanities Institute at Duke University.
