3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The Duke New Music Ensemble, directed by Eren Gümrükcüoglu, will present works by Duke graduate student composers, including Sid Richardson's "Liber Contrapunctum" for piano and violin (an ongoing collection of short contrapuntal pieces that seek to reinterpret harmonic material excerpted from Johann Sebastian Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier in new and interesting ways); Nina C. Young's "Meditation" for violin and cello; Kenneth Stewart's "Prologue" for humbucker pick-up, Leap Motion controller and electronics; and new works by James Chu for clarinet, loop pedal and SuperCollider and Eren Gumrukcuoglu for Moog Modular 1c, synthesizer and electronics. The Moog synthesizer belongs to Duke and was recently restored to working condition by Duke student Jeffrey Wubbenhorst. Performers include Scott Lee (piano), Sarah Griffin (violin), Emily Austin Smith (cello), James Chu (clarinet), and Eren Gumrukcuoglu (keyboards and electronics).
