The Mexican Association for Rural and Urban Transformation (AMEXTRA) is a community development organization that works to improve the lives of marginalized communities in Mexico State, Chiapas and Guerrero, Mexico. AMEXTRA is a local, Mexican organization that consists of a microfinance bank, a community development program, a fair trade sales company and an ecological research center. AMEXTRA offers volunteers the opportunity to work on projects related to women's empowerment, education, health, ecological sustainability and fair trade. Students may design independent projects or work on existing AMEXTRA programs. In AMEXTRA, we work with communities and serve people not because we are already transformed, but because in serving, we become transformed.
