How can I get events from the Events@Duke onto my personal calendar?

To download an individual event, click the icon beside the event and save the file to your desktop.  Open your calendar client.  If your calendar client is compatible with the .ics file format, you can import the file (File > Import) so it appears as an event on your calendar (sometimes a simple drag-and-drop of the file from the desktop to the open calendar client will do the trick).  Most of the calendar clients in use at Duke (dCal, Lotus Notes, Apple iCal, Outlook 2003 SP3, Google Calendar) support the import of .ics files.  However, your personal calendar may use a proprietary format that is incompatible with .ics.

Can I subscribe to an RSS feed for the groups or categories I want?

Yes.  When you see the RSS icon (orange & white box) displayed in the calendar, click it to subscribe to an RSS feed for the current view.  For example, if you are viewing the current week's events for a particular group, you can subscribe to a feed that will provide you with that group's events by week.  Just copy and paste the URL provided into your preferred RSS reader (e.g., Bloglines, Yahoo, Google).

In December 2008, we changed the RSS feed process to provide static RSS feeds that will be refreshed three times each day.  The primary benefits to end users of using static feeds are:

  1. Faster loading of feeds
  2. More reliable feeds
  3. Greater compatibility with RSS software

Can I import events from my personal calendar or my department's calendar to Events@Duke?

Importing events is technically possible, but the ability to do so is limited to groups who have a special need to import large quanitities of events en masse, such as Duke Athletics.  Our goal for Events@Duke is to have departments use it as their central calendar and pull events (via XML or RSS) from there.
