What type of events should go on Events@Duke?
All Duke University units and groups should publish their events on Events@Duke, which serves as the central source of event information for the campus community and others. The University regards the calendar as one of its most important tools for promoting institutional goals such as student engagement, interdisciplinary inquiry and a lively arts presence. The calendar's main purpose is to highlight campus events, but it may also include a limited number of community events that meet the following criteria:
-
-- The event has been organized by a member of the Duke-Durham Neighborhood Partnership. Information about the partnership is described at community.duke.edu.
-
-- Events must be open to the public
-
-- Events must be of general interest to the Duke community.
If you still have questions about posting your event, contact the Calendar Administrator.

What Web browser should I use to view the calendar?
Events@Duke is best viewed in Firefox or Safari. Internet Explorer has limitations, both in terms of the RSS functionality and the administrative interface used to enter events. If you experience problems with the display or functionality, check your browser settings to ensure "mixed content" is enabled.Return to Top
How can I search events for exact phrases or exact words?
Enter the words you want to search for in the search box in the top left corner of the calendar. The auto-complete functionality of the search box will suggest matches based on matches as you enter the word(s). You can either select from one of the suggested options or click "enter" to view the events that match. The search will find events with matches to the word(s) in either the event title, description, location, speaker, series name, sponsoring group or category. You can also put quotes (" ") around the phrase or words. For example, to search for the phrase Blue Devils, enter "Blue Devils" and click the search button. The search results will only return events that contain the exact phrase Blue Devils. If you don't use the quotes, the search results will find events with matches on either the word "blue" or "devil."Return to Top
What's the difference between the "Manage Events" and the "Submit Event" links on the calendar?
If you're a calendar administrator for your organization, use the "Manage Events" link to access the calendar's administrative interface. After you log in with your Duke NetID, you can add and modify events for your group(s). Events entered by calendar administrators are published immediately on Events@Duke.
The "Submit Event" link is for anyone with a Duke NetID who doesn't have a calendar administrator in their group or who belongs to a group that hasn't been established in the calendar. Events submitted this way are reviewed by the main calendar administrator before they are published in the calendar.

How can Events@Duke help me promote my organization's or group's events?

How can I get my group's event highlighted with an image at the top of the calendar?
Duke's Office of News and Communication (ONC) selects the events that are featured on the calendar. It seeks diverse events that will appeal to wide audiences and best represent the university. ONC also publicizes many of these events in This Month at Duke, a free publication that it distributes across campus and in Durham. If you would like ONC to consider highlighting your event on the calendar, send an email message to featuredevents@duke.edu. Include a photo or other image to illustrate the event, along with the photographer's name and confirmation that you have rights to publish the photo on Duke's site. ONC prefers photos that are at least 300 dpi, but will accept smaller versions. Requests to feature an event should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event. The event must be held on Duke's campus or in other Duke venues to be featured.Return to Top
Can I suggest new features or changes for the calendar?
We are committed to adding features and making other changes to enhance the calendar and make it as useful as possible to the Duke community and others. An advisory committee and a steering committee prioritize the possible changes. You can either click on the orange "Feedback" button in the bottom right corner of the calendar or you can send suggestions and feedback via email to calendaring@duke.edu.Return to Top
Can I use the calendar for resource scheduling, such as to reserve a classroom?
Not currently, but possibly in the future. We know there is interest in integrating the calendar with 25Live, Duke's tool for resource scheduling. It was not in the scope of the project to provide this capability in the current version of the calendar. We are considering this for a future project.Return to Top
