Thursday, August 16, 2018
10:00 am - 11:00 am
Melissa McPheeters, PhD
Department of Population Health Sciences Research Seminar

Tennessee is at the epicenter of the opioid epidemic and their response was the rapid creation of an integrated data program incorporating scientific rigor with business intelligence thus, giving them a better understanding of the outbreak. In her talk, Dr. McPheeters will discuss the need for data access and sharing and analysis. She proposes using a multidisciplinary approach between public health and academia including more efficient investigation of over-prescribing, public facing dashboards for aggregate data, rapid response to overdose "outbreaks" and publication of rigorous research.

Dr. McPheeters is the Assistant Commissioner and Director of Informatics and Analytics at the Tennessee Department of Health and an Adjunct Research Professor at Vanderbilt University.
