Jean-Paul C. Montagnier studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, before completing a Ph.D. at Duke University (1994) where he specialized in the music of the French baroque. He is currently Professor of musicology at the University of Lorraine (Nancy, France), and Associate Member at the Institut de Recherche en Musicologie (IReMus, CNRS). He served as Adjunct Professor at McGill University from 2007 to 2017, and has recently been nominated a Robert M. Trotter Visiting Distinguished Professor at the University of Oregon School of Music and Dance for the 2018-2019 academic year. He serves on the editorial board of the Collected Works of Jean-Baptiste Lully published by Olms (Germany). His last publications include "The Polyphonic Mass in France, 1600-1780: The Evidence of the Printed Choirbooks" (Cambridge: CUP, 2017), and "The War of Austrian Succession and the Masses by Henry Madin (1740-1748)" which will be published in Music & Letters.
