Creative Process Workshop

Interested in the intersections of acting, dance, singing, art, and music? Come join Craig Quintero, artistic director of Taiwan's Riverbed Theatre, for a two-hour workshop that introduces the creative process he uses in staging his unique form of image-based theatre.

The workshop will include exercises focused on sound, objects, space, and movement as well as elements drawn from Viewpoints and Japanese butoh. This workshop is open to Duke students, faculty, and staff as well as members of the Durham community. This is a great opportunity to explore a different creative process and to meet other local artists. NO ACTING EXPERIENCE NECESSARY.

This workshop is part of a creative project being developed by Torry Bend, chair of Theater Studies, and Quintero, a Humanities Unbounded Fellow, that will culminate in a performance about coal mining in Taiwan and North Carolina at the Reynolds Theatre April 18-20, 2020.

The performance will explore both the largely unseen labor of the miners as well as the long-term environmental impact of mining/coal ash on local communities. This performance is being developed in response to the recent efforts by Trump to renew the fossil fuel industry despite global warming and the short-term and long-term dangers.
