Myron Dewey

This event welcomes the CDS Spring 2019 Lehman-Brady Visiting Professor, Myron Dewey. Myron Dewey is a filmmaker, journalist, digital storyteller, and the founder of Digital Smoke Signals, a media production company that aims to give a platform to indigenous voices in media.

A catered reception begins at 6 p.m. A screening of Myron's film "AWAKE: A Dream from Standing Rock" follows the reception at 7 p.m. "AWAKE: A Dream from Standing Rock" follows from summer 2016 (when demonstrations over the Dakota Access Pipeline's demolishing of sacred Native burial grounds began) to the current and disheartening status of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The film is a collaboration between indigenous filmmakers: Director Myron Dewey and Executive Producer Doug Good Feather; and environmental Oscar-nominated filmmakers Josh Fox and James Spione.

The Water Protectors at Standing Rock captured world attention through their peaceful resistance. The film documents the story of Native-led defiance that has forever changed the fight for clean water, our environment and the future of our planet.

A Q&A with Myron will follow the screening. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
