Crown Yourself: The Dolci Experience in Flowers and Art

Crown Yourself
Saturday, December 16, 2017
2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The Nasher Museum and Sarah P. Duke Gardens present a special opportunity to expand our understanding of 17th-century Florence and the inspiration Florentines took from nature. The program begins at the Nasher Museum with a special tour of the exhilarating exhibition The Medici's Painter: Carlo Dolci and 17th Century Venice. Dolci is known for his luminous and meticulous renderings, reverence for detail, brilliant palette and jewel-like surfaces. After the tour, we will walk to Duke Gardens, where we will complete an arrangement of botanical materials to create our crowns (or wreaths, centerpieces). All materials and tools will be provided with guidance and assistance from Duke Gardens and Nasher staff. Please bring any personal embellishments you would like to include. Refreshments available during the workshop portion. We recommend that you park at Duke Gardens and walk over to meet the group at the Nasher Museum.

Gardens members $40; Nasher Museum members $40; General public $50; Duke students $10, includes entrance and ticket to the special tour of the Dolci exhibition and all materials for crowns. Registration required: Call 919-668-1707
