Visualization Friday Forum

Research frequently has practical implications for public policy and the potential to benefit interested policymakers. Yet, the formats used to disseminate research findings often are ill-suited to the realities of policymakers, who frequently are non-experts with limited time and attention. Turning research findings into formats that are easily and intuitively grasped by policymakers, especially oral presentations, therefore is critical to turning research insights into action.

This workshop will consider strategies for effective presentations to to policymakers. John Quinterno, a policy consultant and adjunct instructor at the Sanford School of Public Policy, will provide overall observations and practical examples. Then, members of a team of Master of Public Policy students consisting of Janna Driskel, Jennifer Hausman, Kristen Jensen, and Michael Penansky will share their recent experiences presenting research on how to ensure accurate census counts after natural disasters to the membership of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO).
