Why do some plants benefit from fire? In this four-part online class, Dan Richter, professor of soils and forest ecology at Duke University, will take you through the history of landscape fires in America, describing its role in shaping the landscape and what happened once fire was controlled and no longer a force in the landscape. The use of prescribed burning and its role in shaping today's landscape will also be discussed.
