"Inocente" is the inspiring story of Inocente Izucar, an undocumented immigrant who was homeless at the age of 15. It was not her plight that impressed filmmakers Sean Fine and Andrea Nix Fine, but her talent and irrepressible spirit. Beginning each day painting her face with bright and extravagant makeup, Inocente creates worlds of colorful characters and shapes. The film follows her life in San Diego and support she received from the non-profit group ARTS: A Reason to Survive. Now 19, she has had a successful art show in New York City, and the documentary has appeared in many film festivals and on MTV.--WINNER of Academy Award for Best Documentary Short!--Co-sponsored by the Two-Way Bridges/Puentes de Doble Via (Humanities Writ Large) and the UNC-Duke Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies.
