Opening Reception: "Soul and Service," panels celebrating the NC Mutual Life Insurance Company

An event celebrating the opening of an eight-panel exhibition designed to celebrate the rich history of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, described by its founders as "The Company with a Soul and a Service." Mutual opened its doors for business in 1898, making it the nation's oldest and largest insurance company with roots in the African American community. The panels feature reproductions from the company's archives, which are jointly held in the special collections of Duke University's David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library and the University Archives, Records and History Center of North Carolina Central University. "Soul and Service" is on view on the Bridges porch at the Center for Documentary Studies through December 20 and is cosponsored by NC Mutual and the John Hope Franklin Research Center of African and African American History and Culture, part of the Rubenstein Library, Duke University.
