Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative Tree Planting

Tree Planting '17

1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Start your semester off right by helping plant trees in urban areas that need them. The Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative (DCOI) and Delta Air Lines have partnered to sponsor the majority of the City of Durham's 2017/18 planting season, resulting in all of Duke's flights through Delta being carbon neutral this year. Planting plans for the city of Durham include research conducted by the Nicholas School of the Environment identifying racially targeted historical red-lining policies and the legacy of those policies today, which is non-equitable distribution of tree canopy cover. While trees sequester carbon as they grow, they also provide benefits to human health, property values, and improved energy efficiency from shade these historically underserved communities did not receive. Durham city government has been conducting community outreach and we invite you to come be a part of the team that reverses this narrative and plants 1,000 new trees around Durham this planting season! Register today for your tree planting! Visit https://keepdurhambeautiful.org/dcoidelta# for more information.
