Sang Yup Lee, Professor, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Dean of KAIST Institutes, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST)

Abstract: : Due to our increasing concerns on climate change and other environmental issues, bio-based production of chemicals and materials from renewable non-food resources has been attracting much interest. In this lecture, I will present the general strategies for the bio-based production of chemicals, in particular focusing on systems metabolic engineering as an enabler. Following description on various tools and methods of systems metabolic engineering, I will showcase several example products ranging from fuels, bulk chemicals and also materials.
