Observation stays are an increasingly common alternative to inpatient admission for patients who can't be safely discharged, however, they vary in use across hospitals. Dr. Wright will discuss observation stays in the fee-for-service Medicare population asking if disparities in observation use occur within hospitals or between them and if the decision to observe vs. admit patients result in different outcomes.

Dr. Wright is an Associate Professor in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa
