Kathleen Wirth, ScD
Department of Population Health Sciences Research Seminar

Focusing on the methodological complexities encountered in the final analyses, Dr. Wirth looks at the impact of intensive HIV testing and counseling, linkage to care, and expanded access to antiretroviral treatment and male circumcision on community HIV incidence in 30 rural/semi-urban Botswana communities. They observed a 30% reduction in community HIV incidence demonstrating that it's possible to reduce HIV incidence in high-HIV-prevalence settings that have already approached the ambitious UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets, by further increasing coverage.

Dr. Wirth is a Research Scientist in the Department of Biostatistics at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and an Affiliated Researcher at the Harvard AIDS Initiative.
