Author Talk: Hisham Matar

Event Image
Thursday, November 29, 2018
7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for a talk and conversation by Hisham Matar, a writer born of Libyan parents in New York City whose memoir, The Return: Father, Soul, and the Land in Between, won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Autobiography. In this rare investigation into the disappearance of his dissident father, Matar turns to painting and poetry to guide him in his search and help him explore the dilemma, "What do you do when you cannot leave and cannot return?" This event is part of the exhibition In Transit: Arts & Migration Around Europe, within The Collection Galleries. Co-sponsored by Duke's Vice Provost for Global Affairs and the Duke at Home in the World Series, sponsored by the von der Heyden Fellows Fund, established by Karl ('62) and Mary Ellen von der Heyden. Also sponsored by Duke University's Vice Provost for Global Affairs and Franklin Humanities Institute.
