Mary Gaylord, Sosland Family Professor at Harvard University, will examine the logic behind Cervantes's designation of Cide Hamete Benengeli as author of the "original" version of Don Quixote's history, placing that seemingly festive gesture in the context of Habsburg historiography and exploring its implications for the parodic and satiric reach of his masterpiece.
