Jazz Vespers: A Service of Lament and Hope

Jazz Vespers blends the form of the traditional evening vespers service with the musical improvisation of jazz. With themes of lament and hope, the service combines poetry, ritual, blessings, and music. It is led by the John Brown Big Band, under the direction of John V. Brown, Vice Provost for the Arts at Duke University. This Jazz Vespers remembers the life and ministry of Óscar Romero, the Catholic bishop from El Salvador who advocated for the poor and was martyred on March 24,1980.

Paid parking is available on a first-come-first-served basis in the Bryan Center garage at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking is available in the Bryan Center Surface Lot at the same address. For more parking options, see chapel.duke.edu/visit-events/visit#parking.
