Viviana Martinez-Bianchi, MD, FAAFP is a family doctor, fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Associate Professor and the Director for Health Equity at Duke University's Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. She is Executive Member -at- Large of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) chair of the Organizational Equity committee, and WONCA's liaison to the World Health Organization. She is founding member and co-director of LATIN-19, the Latinx Advocacy Team and Interdisciplinary Network for COVID-19, a multisector group addressing Hispanic health during the COVID-19 Pandemic and beyond. She currently serves as a Latinx Health advisor for the NC DHHS. She is a member of the NC Governor's Andrea Harris Social, Economic, Environmental, and Health Equity Task Force, and she serves in the NC DHHS Historically Marginalized Populations COVID-19 Response team, in the Steering Committee of the North Carolina COVID-19 Vaccine Advisory Committee, convened by the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM), the NC Medical Society's Health and Racial Equity Task Force (HRETF) and in the Vulnerable Populations Subcommittee of the Durham's Recovery & Renewal Task Force (RRTF). In 2020, Dr Martinez-Bianchi was featured in a mini-documentary video by Univision highlighting her work in the pandemic. The documentary, "The Heroes of the Pandemic", can be seen in the LATIN-19 website http://latin19.org/who-we-are/. Her leadership activities have also included serving as an elected member to several Boards of Directors, including the Iowa and the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. She Chaired the Health Equity Team for Family Medicine for America's Health, she has been Faculty for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) Foundation Emerging Leader Institute, and she chaired the AAFP Commission on Membership and Member Services, and represented minority physicians to the Congress of Delegates of the AAFP. She has been an invited speaker to multiple organizations, especially on issues of population health, leadership, cultural competency/humility and health care for minority populations.
