Exploring Careers in Child and Family Policy

Sarah Rabiner Eisensmith is a forensic social worker, academic consultant, educator, academic guide and researcher.

As a forensic social worker at AHB Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness, Eisensmith provides a therapeutic environment for supervised visitation and exchanges to families with the goal of repairing or restoring parent-child relationships. She also conducts supervised visitation, including for families involved in the court and child welfare systems, to observe and evaluate parent-child attachment and interaction, parenting skills, and other areas of concern specific to each family.

Eisensmith also works as an academic guide for students of all ages to co-create academic and behavioral goals and provides support and accountability to promote success.

Eisensmith earned a Master's and Doctoral degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her Master's in education from Lesley University and received her BA degree from Duke University.

This speaker series is for Duke students who want to learn more about careers in child and family policy. Meetings are designed to help students explore the wide range of job opportunities and careers available in the field of child and family policy while creating a network of students who share their professional interests.

At weekly meetings, we will discuss how to forge a career in policy by speaking with people doing policy work in education, health, juvenile justice, child welfare, economic security, and other areas. Learn from people who went straight into policy jobs, pursued law school, joined Teach for America, or have made a careers in academia. Speakers will talk about how they got started, about the turns they took along the way, and what they have enjoyed most. They will also share tips for launching your career and what they look for when hiring.
