Gender Wednesday

Gender Wednesday Undergraduate Speaker/Lucheon Series invites Duke professor of Biomedical Engineering and Director of Center for Global Women's Health Technologies, Nimmi Ramanujam to talk about how we have used a woman centric approach to eradicate the much dreaded duck bill speculum and the work we are doing to create a new narrative for women's perceptions of their reproductive anatomy.

Dr. Ramanujam leads a multi-disciplinary translational research program focused on the development of novel optical technologies for noninvasive or minimally invasive assessment of breast and cervical cancer. In October 2013, Nimmi founded the Global Women's Health Technologies Center, a partnership between the Pratt School of Engineering and the Duke Global Health Institute. The center's mission is to increase research, training and education in women's diseases, with a focus on breast and cervical cancer. Nimmi earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas, Austin in 1995 and then trained as an NIH postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania from 1996-2000.
