Learn more about the ancient practice of cover cropping. Learn to improve your garden's soil, increase fertility, build water-holding capacity and minimize weeds through the use of a cover crop. Instructor Emily McGinty of Duke Campus Farms will introduce this system to you, and then she'll review the crop types that are useful to promote specific goals. A recent 12-year study at the University of Illinois confirmed that cover cropping also increases the carbon sequestration in soil - a gain for us all. Instructor: Emily McGinty, assistant program manager, Duke Campus Farms. Location: Doris Duke Center. Qualifies for Home Horticulture Certificate elective course (3 hours).
