It took years of struggle, creativity, and perseverance by Muslim women who don't get the media's attention. We owe much to women like Ibtihaj Muhammad and Linda Sarsour, but they stand on the shoulders of African American Muslim mothers who worked hard to make their daughters love being Muslim and feel beautiful at the same time.
