Sponsored by the Hans Lowenbach Memorial Fund. Dr Jeffrey Baker directs the Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, and History of Medicine. He holds joint appointments as Professor of Pediatrics and Professor of the Practice of History. Dr Baker has practiced for over 30 years as a general pediatrician with a focus on children with autism and special needs. His publications have also centered on child health, most notably the history of neonatal medicine, vaccine controversies, and autism. His more recent work has explored the complex interaction of race and health care in Duke's home community of Durham, North Carolina, a topic upon which he has given many public lectures. With support of a Bass Connections grant, he led a team that developed a public exhibition, "Documenting Durham's Health History: Understanding the Roots of Health Disparities in the 'City of Medicine."
