David S. Bickham, Ph.D. is a research scientist at the Center on Media and Child Health at Boston Children's Hospital and an Instructor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. His work explores the intersection between adolescent's media use and their mental health. Through the use of Ecological Momentary Sampling, Dr. Bickham is examining how specific aspects of social media and other technology use may alleviate or aggravate symptoms of depression. Dr. Bickham is the author of numerous research articles and book chapters, has worked with Facebook and Google to improve the mental health of their users, and has testified to federal and state lawmakers about topics related to media and health. Upcoming work from Dr. Bickham includes research identifying an emotional and behavioral profile of youth suffering from Problematic Interactive Media Use in order to help preventative initiatives for this disorder.
