Thursday, March 11, 2021
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Duke Divinity Veterans Partnership and the Black Seminarians Union, both student groups at Duke Divinity School, are hosting a virtual conversation with retired Brigadier General James R. Gorham on topics that intersect spirituality, race, and leadership based on his book Sharecroppers Wisdom.

Gorham became the first African American brigadier general of the North Carolina National Guard. He is a 38-year veteran of the military and served 12 months in Iraq. He also served as director of the Joint Staff of the North Carolina National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Raleigh, N.C., and as the commander of the North Carolina National Guard Joint Task force. He is also a retired business banking executive with 29 years of experience in the financial services industry and served as the commissioner of the Juvenile Justice of North Carolina.

His book has received multiple awards from the Dan Poynter's Global E-Book Contest and was chosen as the Sylvia Hamlin Literary Award Winner at the 2017 National Black Theatre Festival. It was written for seasoned and aspiring leaders looking for new leadership ideas and was gleaned from a wealth of deeply rooted wisdom spanning one of the most tumultuous times in American history.

The discussion is open to all faculty, staff, and students.

Registration is required.
