COLOR: the x-factor, Part I
In "COLOR: the x-factor," we review how artists have considered color over time and how color technology shapes visual expression. We learn to identify primary, secondary and complementary colors and consider phenomenal responses to color as per Kandinsky and Albers. We consider the advent of photography, at the time a black and white medium, and how it impacted the arc of painting away from realism and towards impressionism, pointillism and expressionism, for example. Finally, we review the invention of color film stocks and how color ultimately shaped photographic expression. This 2-part workshop begins on March 16 with a 1-hour lecture and discussion followed by an assignment and critique on March 23.
