Biology Seminar

*Early Career Seminars are a mini-series within the Biology Seminar Series in which postdocs from Duke Biology invite researchers that have recently started positions at a variety of types of institutions (R1/R2 universities, industry, government, etc.) to discuss their research as well as the process of transitioning into these positions.

Dr. Galic is an ecologist who now works in an industry position as an ecological modeler at Syngenta Crop Protection in Greensboro, NC.

Abstract
Species listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) are under strict legal protection and any activity, including the use of agrochemicals, that could jeopardize their existence needs to be carefully assessed. However, assessing risks to listed species is challenging because of a lack of biological and ecological data required for developing population models used in assessments. In this talk I will present different approaches we are currently working on to address data-gaps on two groups of listed species, terrestrial plants and freshwater mussels.
