Research in the Mulholland Lab aims to unlock the molecular mechanisms by which chronic alcohol leads to excessive drinking, alcohol-biased choice behaviors, cognitive impairments, negative affective behaviors, and aberrant structural and functional plasticity. We combine various techniques, such as super-resolution confocal microscopy, light sheet whole-brain imaging, in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, fiber photometry, and behavior, to understand the cellular and molecular changes that contribute to alcohol use disorder.
