Contemporary Artist Series: Burk Uzzle

Burk Uzzle
Thursday, October 19, 2017
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

5:30 PM Cash Bar
6 PM Burk Uzzle, who was the youngest photographer ever hired by Life magazine, will give a talk and demonstration on light, shadow and composition. Uzzle is one of three artists who will share how their work connects with the special ticketed exhibition, "The Medici's Painter: Carlo Dolci and 17th-Century Florence." Light and shadow, detail and abstraction, composition and tension, capturing a subject's gaze-these issues tested old master painters like Carlo Dolci, who influenced many generations of artists. The artists in this series will talk about how they pull from a long tradition of portraiture, how they are inspired by and grapple with faith in their work and how their work connects, and does not connect, to a larger history. This talk is free and open to all, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the North Carolina Arts Council.

New! General admission is free all day Thursday, 10 AM to 9 PM, but tickets are required for the exhibition, The Medici's Painter.
