Crown Yourself: The Dolci Experience in Flowers and Art

Event Image
Saturday, September 23, 2017
2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Expand your understanding of 17th century Florence and the inspiration Florentines took from nature. The program begins at the Nasher Museum of Art with a curator-led tour of the exhilarating exhibition, "The Medici's Painter: Carlo Dolci and 17th Century Venice." Dolci's work is noted for its luminous and meticulous renderings, demonstrating a reverence for detail, brilliant palette and jewel-like surfaces. Then moving to Duke Gardens, we will complete an arrangement of botanical materials to create our crowns (or wreaths or centerpieces). All materials and tools will be provided, along with guidance and assistance from Duke Gardens and Nasher staff. Bring any embellishments you would like to include. Refreshments available during the workshop portion. Details for each program: section A: Saturday, Sept. 23, features crowns of fall foliage, berries and seed pods. Section B: Saturday, Dec. 16, features crowns of evergreens, holly and berries. Park at Duke Gardens, begin the program at the Nasher Musuem, and end the program at Duke Gardens. Participant limit: 15 per section. Registration required. Information/registration: 919-668-1707 or gardenseducation@duke.edu.
