Scholars + Storytelling: Chinese Eco-Cinema with Shu-Chin Tsui
In this installment of Scholars + Storytelling, Dr. Shu-Chin Tsui discusses the role documentary filmmaking plays in China's response to its growing environmental crisis. Her talk complements screenings of Under the Dome (2015), Plastic China (2016), and Behemoth (2015) as part of Duke's 3rd Annual Global Health Film Festival.
Shu-chin Tsui is a Professor of Asian Studies and Chair of Cinema Studies at Bowdoin College. She is the author of Women Through the Lens: Gender and Nation in a Century of Chinese Cinema and Gendered Bodies: Toward A Women's Visual Art in Contemporary China. She is currently working on a new manuscript tentatively titled "China's Environmental Crisis through the Lens of Eco-cinema."
