Philip Gourevitch
Media and Journalism Initiative

Gourevitch, an award-winning New Yorker staff writer who has covered the aftermath of genocides in Rwanda and Cambodia and the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, will explore how memories of atrocities are used--and misused--in politics and society today.

Philip Gourevitch is a longtime New Yorker staff writer, the former editor of The Paris Review, and the author of We Wish To Inform You That Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families (1998), the story of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, and The Ballad of Abu Ghraib (2008), an account of Iraq's Abu Ghraib prison under the American occupation.

Introduced by Jonathan M. Katz, Journalist, Author, and Director of the Media and Journalism Initiative.
