Bach Cantata Series Concert #2

BCS1819
Sunday, October 28, 2018
5:15 pm - 6:15 pm
Dr. Philip Cave, director
Bach Cantata Series

This concert in Duke Chapel's Bach Cantata Series comprises settings of words from Psalm 42, such as, "Like as the hart desireth the waterbrooks: so longeth my soul for thee, O Lord."

The music is by Buxtehude, Schütz, and Handel, as well as Bach's Cantata Warum betrübst du dich (Why art thou so heavy, o my soul?), BWV 138. The Duke Bach Ensemble will perform with soloists, chorus, and period instrument ensemble.

Admission is free. Parking is available for $5 in the Bryan Center Parking Garage at 125 Science Drive. ADA parking is available at the same address in the Bryan Center Surface Lot.

This year's Bach Cantata Series has a theme of "both sides:" Bach's music will be presented framed by both his predecessors and successors, and Bach as composer of both sacred and secular music.
