"La pantalla luminosa: cine centroamericano actual," a talk by Dr. María Lourdes Cortés, a recognized historian of Central American Cinema. She teaches at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), and is the former director of CINERGIA, Foundation for the Development of the Audiovisual in Central America and Cuba. In 2005, she received the Ezequiel Martínez Estrada Award from Casa de las Américas (Cuba) for the best essay published in Ibero-America for her book La pantalla rota. Cien años de cine en Centroamérica. In 2015, she won the award granted by Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de Cuba for best essay about Latin-American and Caribbean Cinema for Los amores contrariados. García Márquez y el cine. Dr. Cortés has been a juror at film festivals in France, Holland, Cuba, Mexico and Panama, where she has also given conferences and workshops. In 2005, the French government awarded her with the National Order of Merit.
