Mexican Consulate Poster
Wednesday, October 17, 2018
12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Consul General Remedios Gómez Arnau
Wednesdays at the Center

The presentation will highlight the contributions-ones not well known by the public at large-that the Mexican Consulate makes on a routine basis to help bridge gaps in services required by Mexican immigrants. The Consul General will explain how this is achieved through networking and alliances with local authorities, private groups, and grass-roots and community-based organizations, exemplifying the relevance and value of collaboration between Mexico and the United States to achieve common goals.

Remedios Gómez Arnau assumed the office of Consul General in Raleigh, North Carolina on June 16, 2016. Previously, Gómez Arnau directed the Mexican Consulate Generals in San Diego from 2008 to 2016 and Atlanta from 2001 to 2008. Prior to her positions as consul general, she was an Associate Researcher at the Center for Research on North America (CISAN) at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializing in U.S. foreign policy and the Mexico-U.S. relationship. Gómez Arnau has also served in a variety of positions at the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Relations in Mexico City. Holder of a Ph.D. in international relations, Gómez Arnau served on the First Binational Study on Migration commissioned by the governments of Mexico and the United States, and on the U.S. Binational Migration Group organized by the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM) and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
