Paths in the City: Migration and Urbanization in Africa

The connection between infrastructure and anxiety about the movement of people has a long history in Africa, from the segregating imperatives built into early colonial urban planning to the "slum clearance" initiatives of the more recent past. This collaborative research project invites a sustained consideration of how African experiences inform broader ethnographic and historical debates about mobility and how it is embedded, or not, in infrastructure.
