Keynote Luncheon:
"The role of the FSRDCs in implementing the Federal Data Strategy and the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018" by Nancy Potok - Chief Statistician of the United States, U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB)

In a dramatic show of bi-partisanship, the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2017 passed Congress in December 2018 and became law in January 2019. The bill follows on the recommendations of the final report of the Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking. The bill requires departments and agencies identified in the Chief Financial Officers Act to submit annually to the OMB and Congress a plan for identifying and addressing policy questions relevant to the programs, policies, and regulations of such departments and agencies. The plan must include: (1) a list of policy-relevant questions for developing evidence to support policymaking, and (2) a list of data for facilitating the use of evidence in policymaking. In addition, the Trump administration is nearing the end of a year-long process to develop a Federal Data Strategy to " create a coordinated approach to federal data use and management that serves the public."
