Works by Marilyn Bliss, Thomas McColley, Eric Ewazen, Charles Delaney, and others. Includes the extended flute family from bass to piccolo with music written specifically for flute quartet, as well as adapted earlier works by Mozart and Frescobaldi. Flute4 was formed in 2017 by a quartet of Carolina flutists and has already enjoyed an appearance at the National Flute Association Convention in 2018, a newly commissioned work by Thomas McColley for the ensemble, and looks forward to appearances throughout the Mid-Atlantic region in 2019. Carla Copeland-Burns is a member of the NC Opera Orchestra, Blue Mountain/Forecast, and the Greensboro Symphony. She teaches at Duke University and Meredith College. Erinn Frechette serves as Piccolo/Third Flute of the Charlotte Symphony and Professor of Flute at Wingate University. Caroline Ulrich is Principal Flute with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and on the faculty at South Carolina Governor's School for Arts and Humanities. Amy Orsinger Whitehead has played flute in the Charlotte Symphony since 1997 and also performs in the Rhodora Winds, the Laurel Trio, and the Out of Bounds New Music Ensemble. This concert is presented in association with RAFA (Raleigh Area Flute Association) as the final event in a day of participatory workshops on ensemble skills, musicians' health, mind games, teamwork, and more.
