About the lecture
The objective of the talk is to inform students about school feeding: what is it, where is it practiced, what are its costs and benefits? Following a global overview, Dr. Fernandes will then share some of her work experience, specifically an evaluation that was recently completed in Ghana.

About the speaker
Dr. Fernandes is currently an associate advisor at Milieu Ltd, a consultancy based in Brussels, Belgium. She began her research career with a focus on childhood obesity and nutrition in the United States. In recent years, she transferred her expertise to work in developing countries, where there is increased concern regarding non-communicable diseases and the benefits of connecting nutrition with local food systems. She worked for the UN World Food Programme headquarters in Rome, where she supported the School Feeding Unit, and subsequently for the Partnership for Child Development based in Imperial College London. She supported several impact evaluations of school feeding in sub-Saharan Africa and provided technical assistance to governments seeking to scale-up school feeding. She has a PhD in Policy Analysis from the Pardee RAND Graduate School, based in Santa Monica, CA.
