3:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Duke Divinity School has organized a Conference Against the Use of Drones in Warfare featuring speakers from different areas of expertise on the problems with and the ramifications of their use. The purpose of the conference is not to debate the use of drones in warfare but to encourage students, scholars, and citizens to be informed about problems related to their use. The conference is open to people of different faiths and those who do not profess a faith, people who already are concerned about the ramifications of using drones in warfare, and people who are basically unaware of their use. There will be time to eat together, to ask questions of one another, and to learn about further resources. There also will be a pre-conference event on Oct. 15 featuring the viewing of a documentary, "Wounds of Waziristan," and a discussion with documentarian Madiha Tahir. The film highlights the stories of those directly impacted by drone attacks in Pakistan since drone attacks began there in 2004 and in their own words. The viewing is open to the public and will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 215 North Church St. Durham, N.C. For more information about the conference or the film screening, or to register for the conference, go to https://divinity.duke.edu/events/conference-against-use-drones-warfare.
