Jonathan Kozol

Stirred by the passion of the civil rights campaigns of 1964 and 1965, Jonathan Kozol abandoned the prospect of a career in academia and chose instead to teach fourth-grade students in one of the extremely poor sections of Boston, MA. He has since devoted his life's work to the challenge of providing equal and equitable opportunities to every child in our public schools.
Mr. Kozol has written more than ten books on public education, including Death at an Early Age, Rachel and Her Children, Savage Inequalities, Amazing Grace, Fire in the Ashes and The Shame of the Nation: The Restoration of Apartheid Schooling in America. He is a National Book Award-winning author, and several of his books have appeared on the New York Time's bestseller list.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public. A book signing will be held immediately following the presentation, and several of Mr. Kozol's works will be available for purchase. Special event parking will be available in the Bryan Center Parking Garage. For more information please call the Program in Education at (919) 660-3075.
