Optics and Photonics Seminar: Holographic Beamforming Technology

Pivotal Commware was established in 2016 to commercialize a breakthrough in antenna technology, Holographic Beam Forming¿ (HBF). The insatiable demand for wireless connectivity is outstripping the complex coding, multiplexing and modulation schemes that wireless operators like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have deployed to this point. Pivotal's HBF provides systems offering low cost, size, weight and power-consuming (C-SWaP) solutions that uniquely optimize spectral efficiency and throughput. Pivotal possess a special strategic relationship with Duke University and is a licensee of Duke intellectual property related to metamaterials. Pivotal is growing rapidly and looking for highly talented engineers to intern and work full time with our team of seasoned professionals.

Alex Katko is an alumnus of Duke, graduating with his PhD in ECE in 2014. His work at Duke focused on nonlinear and active metamaterials and their applications. After Duke, Alex joined Intellectual Ventures in Bellevue, WA to develop metamaterial beamforming technology into a commercial product. Following two years of developing the technology, Alex and others at the Metamaterials Commercialization Center left Intellectual Ventures to form Pivotal Commware. Alex is currently the Director of Product Engineering at Pivotal, where his duties include communications system design, protocol analysis, and bringing Pivotal's Holographic Beamforming from demonstration pieces into widely used products.
