Friday, November 03, 2017
11:00 am - 5:00 pm

Scholars in the programs in Literature and English are hosting an interdisciplinary event on Friday, November 3rd, entitled "Money: Media, Culture, Metamorphosis." Money is a far-reaching and complex technology that can and must be investigated through diverse cultural, social, political, historical, and aesthetic approaches. The day-long event will feature papers by Joshua Ramey, Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Grinnell College ("Money, Debt and Power"); Annie McClanahan, Assistant Professor of English at UC Irvine ("Methodological Individualism and the Novel in the Age of Microeconomics"); and Jace Clayton, sound artist and faculty member of the Bard College MFA program ("Songs for Four Vocalists and the Stock Market"). This will be followed by a roundtable with the three featured guests, as well as panelists Michael Hardt (Duke), Elvira Vilches (Duke) and Larry Grossberg (UNC). Coffee and lunch will be provided, with a reception to follow the roundtable.
