Geometry & Literature: Figures to Create Narratives

Event Flyer
Thursday, February 15, 2018
5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Michèle Audin

Bring your paper and pen! MICHÈLE AUDIN from the experimental writing group OuLiPo (Ouvroir de littérature potentielle, or Workshop for Potential Literature) invites us to a ludic encounter of mathematics - her former profession - and literature, her new passion. How can formal constraints such as geometrical figures help us write more creatively? Join us for a rare and exciting opportunity to hear about poetic forms which enhance literature's potential. Michèle Audin will discuss examples drawn from works by Raymond Queneau to Georges Perec by way of a 13th century troubadour, Arnaut Daniel, who invented the sestina.
