In honor of Black History Month and in an effort to acknowledge the intersection of Black and Latinx identity, the Center for Multicultural Affairs will be hosting an event called "Unpacking Afro-Latinx Identity" on Thursday, February 22nd from 6-7:30 p.m. in the CMA Resource Room. Concepts of race and culture will be explored via student- and staff-facilitated discussion of clips from the PBS documentary Black in Latin America, which highlights the diverse history and legacy of how Afro-Latinx people came to be throughout Latin America. In so doing, this event hopes to create awareness and visibility of Afro-Latinx peoples, culture, and contributions.
