"MIXED" Documentary Screening and Q&A

Flyer for the screening of MIXED documentary including presenters names
Friday, February 10, 2023
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Sarah Gaither, Caty Borum, and Leena Jayaswal

Join Duke University Professor Sarah Gaither and American University professors and film directors Caty Borum and Leena Jayaswal for a screening of their latest film, MIXED, which explores what it means to be a multiracial family in America. Two mothers - one brown, one white - set off on a journey together to explore what it means to be a biracial child living in a mixed-race family in so-called "post-racial America," the perspectives of their own families and others, and America's deep cultural ambivalence about its rapidly-changing mixed race reality. Dr. Gaither's research and the former Duke SWIRL (Students with Interracial Legacies) students are also featured in the film. After the film, there will be a live Q&A discussion with Gaither, Borum, and Jayaswal in addition to representation from the new mixed race student group at Duke! Light snacks will be provided.

MIXED Documentary is a presentation of the Center for Asian American Media with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. We would also like to thank the following co-sponsors: Duke Institute of Brain Sciences, Psychology and Neuroscience Department, Mary Lou Williams Center for Black Culture, Samuel DuBois Cook Center on Social Equity, Office of Faculty Advancement, and The Center for Multicultural Affairs.
